The Retreat is a calm, low‑sensory space designed for students who have additional needs and would benefit from a quieter environment during the college day. Access is by invitation, ensuring the space remains supportive and appropriately used.
The Retreat is divided into two areas:
- Quiet Study Zone – equipped with individual desks (including an adjustable desk) and PCs for focused, distraction‑free study.
- Relaxed Social Zone – a comfortable area where students can unwind, connect with others, and take a break from busy college spaces.
Each year, a group of Year 13 Retreat users are selected to become Peer Mentors. These mentors support other students by:
- Helping them navigate aspects of college life they may find challenging
- Offering friendly guidance and reassurance
- Organising low‑pressure social events that encourage students to build friendships and grow their social and communication skills
This peer‑led approach helps create a warm, inclusive community where students can feel confident, supported, and connected.
