Students at King Edward VI College, Stourbridge, are celebrating another strong set of results after completing more than 3,500 A levels between them this summer.
Across 3,581 A-level entries, the college achieved a 99.5% pass rate. Almost 2,000 results were awarded at A*–B high grades.
The results reflect achievement across the breadth of the college’s curriculum. There were fantastic results in the arts where Textiles and Drama cohorts each achieved more than 95% A*–B, Dance achieved 94.7%, Film Studies achieved 79.6%, Fine Art 74.2% and Graphical Communication 71.1%.
There were also strong performances in some of the college’s largest subjects. Mathematics students achieved 62.7% A*–B across 351 entries, Sociology students achieved 64.4% across 177 entries, and English Literature students achieved 59.8% across 132 entries.
Further Mathematics recorded 63.3% A*–B, while Geology achieved 64.5%, Spanish 69.2% and Physics 54.8%. All four of these subjects recorded a 100% pass rate.
Students completing other Level 3 qualifications also celebrated excellent individual achievements. Criminology students secured particularly strong results, with a 97.6% pass rate on the Applied Certificate and 99.5% on the Applied Diploma.
Behind the headline figures are individual students progressing to a wide range of destinations.
Sam, joined King Ed’s from Kingswinford Academy in 2024, achieving A*,A*,A*,A*,A in Mathematics, Further Maths, Music, Physics and Music Technology. Sam will study Mathematics at University of Birmingham. Sam said: “I’m going on to be doing Maths with an International Year at University of Birmingham. For any students joining King Ed’s – just go for it, you’re not going to have another chance at a college as good as this!”
Marina, who joined King Ed’s from Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, achieved A*,A*,A*,A* and will study Medicine at University of Sheffield. Marina said: “King Ed’s has given me an amazing community of people where everyone is supportive, in a motivational environment. The teachers are so amazing!”
Delphi, formerly of King Charles I School, secured A*,A,A and is progressing to University of Cambridge to study Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic. Delphi said: “The last two years have been amazing! I’ve met people who are going to be friends with for life and I have felt encouraged by my teachers.”
Isla, came to King Ed’s from Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, studied Business, Economics and Sociology and will now take up a level 7 degree apprenticeship in auditing with Deloitte after achieving A*,A*,A. Isla said: “King Ed’s has made me realise I am capable of a lot – the teachers here are incredible. You never feel like you are on your own. There is always someone supporting you.”
